TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras March 6, (Reuters):

HONDURAS BEAT Trinidad 1—0 in the first match of the third Central American soccer championships here last night.

Trinidad, the stronger side physically, were on top in the early stages but after the Honduras centre -forward, scored Trinidad fell off and Honduras controlled play.

A crowd of more than 30,000 watched the match in the National Stadium, which was full many hours before the kick-off.

The championships were officially opened by President Oswaldo Lopez Arellano.
