Atlanta, Ga. — The Milwaukee Wave drafted two former UW-Milwaukee players and lost a former Marquette University star to expansion Friday.

The Wave picked former UWM standouts Jon Szczepanski and Pter Scheinert in the 1989 American Indoor Soccer Association amateur draft, held in the city of this year's AISA expansion team, the Atlanta Attack.

In a separate draft to stock Atlanta, the Attack selected defenders Hayden Knight, Marquette's all-time point scorer, and Gregg Willin from the Milwaukee roster. Atlanta selected two players from each AISA team, with each team allowed to protect 12 of its 16 players.

In the four-round amateur draft, the Wave chose Szczepanski, and ex-Milwaukee Madison player, in the first round (the seventh pick overall) and Schweinert, the formerly of Wisconsin Lutheran, in the third round (23rd overall). Milwaukee had traded its second- and fourth-round picks to Dayton for Zoran Savic last September.

Atlanta chose first, picking Brian Haynes, a forward from Erskine College in South Carolina.
