Forward Jerry Kazarian scored on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining to give the Los Angeles Aztecs a 1-0 exhibition soccer victory Sunday over Atlante of Mexico.

It was the Aztecs' second straight win over first-division Mexican soccer teams, having beaten Monterrey last week.

Kazarian, who scored the winning goal in the 2-1 triumph over Monterrey, was tripped in the penalty box by Atlante's Montes de Oca.

"There was a tremendous amount of pressure," Kazarian said. "I just tried to hit it high into the net."

Goalie Kelvin Barclay, forced by Atlante's pressing attack, made 11 saves.

"The team is playing with more confidence," said Aztec coach Alex Perolli. "The penalty was clear. I think we should have beaten them, 3-0, but we made some mistakes from in front of the goal."

The Aztecs open their North American Soccer League season May 5 at home against Seattle.
