GEORGETOWN, Guyana, March 11 (Reuters):

Trinidad's champion football club 'Maple' yesterday opened a one-week tour of Guyana with an unspectacular one-nil victory against the Georgetown Football Club at soccer headquarters at Bourda here.

One sports correspondent writing today said "eager crowds thronged to see the visiting giants explode into action, but the explosion never came. In fact, G.F.C. should feel honoured in defeat for they had their full share of the run of play and even dominated for brief periods with controlled aggression. Had it not been for three unpardonably missed sitters they might well have emerged victors".

Maple's lone goal was scored in the eighth minute of the game through a hard right shot by Bobby Sookram.
