Trinidadian Signs With NASL Club

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Sockers have signed free agent Steve David, the fourth-leading scorer in the history of the North American Soccer League.

David, 29, a 6-foot, 165-pound center-forward from Trinidad, became a free agent after playing out his contract with the California Surf. The Sockers announced the signing on Monday.

The five-year veteran, is considered one of the league's fastest strikers. He has 81 career goals and 25 assists despite missing almost all of the 1976 season and part of the 1978 campaign with leg and lower back injuries.

He scored 11 goals in 1979 to lead the Surf.
