The Trinidad Chamber of Commerce has opposed the construction of a proposed 10 million Trinidad dollar Stadium here.
At a meeting yesterday the Chamber passed a resolution which claimed the country could not afford such a project at present.
Chamber members stressed that the money could be better used to erect schools. They added the stadium would be nothing more than a perstige project.
The chamber resolution was expected to be sent to the Federation of Chambers of Industry and Commerce for action.
The Government has appointed a stadium committee which was raising funds through public subscription.
The committee has already examined possible sites for a stadium, including Queens Park, centre of horse racing here.
