BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, May 3, (Reuter):

Trinidad's national football team were surprisingly beaten by Barbados champion club Everton 1-0 in the opening match of the inter-territorial series, at Kensington Oval yesterday.

Barbados side won with a penalty by fullback Wilfrid Roach in the 58th minute.

The Trinidad team, which opens a test series against Barbados on Thursday, threw away countless scoring opportunities, especially in the first half and they found Everton's tough defensive line difficult to penetrate.

Everton looked better in the second half, but they too wasted many scoring opportunities.

Trinidad seemed unaccustomed to the hard ground and high bounding wall. A crowd of 4,000 saw the match. British Guiana, the other team in the tournament, arrived in Barbados today.
