Canada and Haiti, neither of whom qualified for Gold Cup 1998, claimed the final two places in the first competition of the new millenium. They join the elite field of 12 nations who will play in The Football Confederation Gold Cup next February 12 to 27 in Los Angeles, Miami and San Diego.

Canada clearly won the four-team play off pool which finished in Los Angeles on Sunday (October 10), claiming seven points from three games to finish top of the group.

With two goals from England-based Carlo Corazzin, Canada beat Haiti 2-1 on the final day. Haiti finished level on points with Cuba, who had a 3-1 win over El Salvador, but qualified based on its 1-0 head-to-head win over Cuba.

This will be Canada's fourth appearance in the Gold Cup finals; Haiti's first. They join the field of 10 already waiting for the final groupings and exact game schedule:

Mexico, champions, USA, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Peru and South Korea.
