The Football Coach

I see some very sensible advice from Trinidad footballer McLean, now resident in Jamaica, in regard to the employment of Bolger, the football coach, whom Jamaica will be sharing with Trinidad this winter; advice based on Trinidad's own experience with the Coach last season.

McLean suggests that we should concentrate the coach's services mainly on the schools, with a certain amount of time devoted to the All-Jamaica side, but not waste his time going round to the various clubs.

This is sound advice—a football coach can do very little with an adult club team unless he can devote his time to one team only; on the other hand he can do a lot of good with school teams who need coaching in the basic points of the game, shooting, passing, positional play etc.
