The Colts and Trinidad

Trinidad's No. 2 custodian was born on the 29th of April, 1924, in Port of Spain and learned his football at Elementary School.

This 5' 11½" electrician now plays for the Colts, a TAFA first division team and it was through his fine displays for them that he was capped in 1944 for the invasion of Barbados.

Last year he again accompanied the team to British Guiana, where playing in quite a number of matches only some six goals the tricky Guianese forwards were able to get by him. For his work then and with the Colts, Merritt was again selected to represent his Colony and is now
here with their team of invasion.

Merritt does not play the third back game; he patrols the ground alertly between the uprights. Asked why, he said, "I just don't believe in that third back game, that is all".
