PASADENA, Calif. - Marcelo Balboa's tie-breaking goal with two minutes left lifted the United States soccer team to a 2-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night.

After Bruce Murray scored with four minutes left to tie the score, Hugo Perez centered the ball. A shot by Everett's Chris Henderson rebounded off Trinidad and Tobago goalie Michael Maurice. With his back to the goal, Balboa shot into the center of the net and past Maurice, who was out of the net, for the winning goal.

The Gold Cup, which runs through July 7, is the inaugural championship of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. The top two teams in each four-team bracket advance to the semifinals.
