Howard and WVU Gain Finals of Soccer Play

MORGANTOWN—Undefeated and No. 1 ranked Howard University moved into the finals of the West Virginia University Soccer Invitational Tournament here Friday along with the host Mountaineers.

Howard won its sixth straight game by shutting out Ohio University 7-0 as Ian Bain scored three goals and Keith Aqui scored twice and had three assists.

West Virginia edged South Florida 1-0 on a goal by Mario Pinto with 7:59 gone in the game. Pinto took an assist from Dennis Almeida and put a quick shot into the corner of the net.

West Virginia was outshot 17-12 but had seven corner kicks to only two for South Florida. The Mountaineers, now 4-1 and ranked No. 3 in the south, generally controlled the game. South Florida now has a 3-1-1 record.

WVU and Howard will clash at 3 p.m. today for the title, while O.U. and South Florida meet in the consolation at 12:30.

A crowd of 2,500 watched Friday's game.
