Howard University's defending NAIA soccer champions blanked Frostburg State's Bobcats, 2-0 in a game played in Washington, D.C. yesterday.
For the undefeated Bisons it was their eighth consecutive win over a two-year period. The loss snapped Frostburg's win streak at three games and left the Bobcats with a 3-2 record.
After battling the Bobcats on even terms in the first period, Howard scored with 2:40 gone in the second stanza as Winston Alexis headed in a corner kick. The hosts tallied a gain with 2:57 gone in the final period on an unassisted goal by Walter Matheros.
The Bobcats were out-shot 27-23 by Howard although many Bison shots were not good shots. Bobcat goalie, John Nussear played an outstanding game for Coach Ken Babcock's men and was credited with 17 saves.
The visitors themselves were unable to get many good shots mainly because of the outstanding play of Howard's fullback, Singh.
Outstanding in the team's losing effort were Clyde Broadwater, Bobby Brown, Dick Hesterberg, Roy Beard and Nussear.
