Jamaica vs Casuals

JAMAICA'S likely soccer team to meet the English FA team in the first match of the Jamaica "300" three-game series at Sabina Park on Wednesday night gets a tryout this afternoon against a combined Trinidad-Jamaica team at Sabina Park starting at 4.30 o'clock.

After weeks of training under the Jamaican Lindy Delapenha, a professional with Middlesbrough Club in English FA League, players will have an opportunity to display what measure of success they have attained.

The opposition this afternoon includes several players who have earned intercolonial colours in Trinidad, British Guiana or Jamaica.

On the elven there are seven Trinidadians, three Jamaicans and one Guianese.

Knowles skipper

The Combined team will be skippered by Ralph Knowles, a former Trinidad centre half and current centre half of Casuals, one of the leading soccer clubs in Trinidad. Supporting him will be goalkeeper Pat Gomez, a member of the Trinidad team which recently toured England; Maurice Pollard ace wing half on British Guiana's main representative teams and other members of the Casuals Club—one of Trinidad leading senior football clubs.

Local players on the side are the Jamaica representative Lloyd Scott, Cecil Chue and Granville Dowie.

There should be a great deal of enthusiastic soccer in today's match. The selectors have not quite made up their minds about certain defence positions.

Fullbacks Aubrey Lowe on the right and Kenny Hamilton and right wing half Dudley Beek will have the eyes of the selectors constantly focussed upon them. So will Scott, who is still very much in the running for either a fullback or wing half spot.

Another focal point of attention in this afternoon's will be the teamwork of the Jamaica forward line which the elusive inside left Lester "Fairy Boots" Alcock and inside right Peter Pinhorn will be called upon to do a lot of work both in offensives and on defence lines.

A fine gesture by the Jamaica Referees Association is their decision to let Ken Laughlin (pronounced Locklin) a first grade Trinidad referee who is here as manager of the Casuals hockey team handle the match.
